Banff travel guide: when to go and how to plan

When should you go?

Where should you stay?
Start with Banff town. One base near Banff town and Bow Falls.
Rent a car at YYC. Use a booked shuttle for the lakes.
What should you book first?
Check rooms for four nights before fixing flights.
Set the full trip budget before you pay. Count lodging, travel, meals, entry fees, and any tours. Check cancellation terms.
Make the plan fit you
Ask about step-free rooms and shuttle access before booking. Families can shorten lakeshore walks; groups should book the same shuttle window.
What could change the plan?
If lake shuttles sell out, ask a licensed operator about access or keep the day in Banff. Do not drive to Moraine Lake expecting public parking.
