Everglades travel guide: when to go and how to plan

Choose the Everglades for wetlands, birds, and short boardwalk walks. Use one entrance area each day. Dry-season trips allow longer outings; wet-season plans need early starts and room for storms.

Where should you stay?
Start with Homestead or Florida City. Choose one room near the Homestead entrance for all three nights.
Rent a car. Use the Homestead park entrance for both park days.
What should you book first?
Choose three nights near Homestead; check parking and breakfast.
Set the full trip budget before you pay. Count lodging, travel, meals, entry fees, and any tours. Check cancellation terms.
Make the plan fit you
Anhinga Trail is a short paved and boardwalk route. Check current access; families can finish after that walk and keep the afternoon free.
What could change the plan?
Skip outdoor stops during lightning or severe weather. Ask rangers which areas are open. Shark Valley is a separate entrance, not a shortcut to Flamingo.
