Yosemite travel guide: when to go and how to plan
Plan an immersive Yosemite trip. Compare seasons, choose a base, and open a full daily itinerary with booking links, packing help, and options for your group.

Choose Yosemite for granite cliffs, valley walks, and time outside. Stay in the valley if you can. Spring favors waterfalls; summer needs early starts; winter calls for short outings and warm breaks.
When should you go?
Our starting plan: May–September; waterfalls vary by season. Open the full plan to compare other seasons and change the route to match.
Where should you stay?
Start with Yosemite Valley. Stay in the valley to reduce daily travel.
Rent a car for arrival. Use the free valley shuttle once parked.
What should you book first?
Check three nights in the valley before fixing flights.
Set the full trip budget before you pay. Count lodging, travel, meals, entry fees, and any tours. Check cancellation terms.
Make the plan fit you
Check the current accessible trail and shuttle information. Families can shorten walks; groups should agree on a lunch meeting point.
What could change the plan?
Use the museum or visitor center during poor weather. Follow closure notices; this plan does not need Tioga Road or Glacier Point Road.
