  • Solo plan: a shared route at home and the option of hosted outings.
When
Summer · June–August
Fly to
Bozeman (BZN)
Stay
4 nights · Canyon Village
Get around
Rent a car. Allow extra time for road works and wildlife stops.
Pace
Short boardwalks; long driving days

Free plan; book directly with each provider. Rooms, tickets, meals, and transport are separate. Check live access and prices for your dates.

Your home base

Canyon Lodge & Cabins

A central park base keeps all four nights in one room.

Check another in-park lodge. A stay outside the park needs longer daily drives.

Book in this order

  1. Check four nights at Canyon Lodge before buying flights.
  2. Confirm the road route and seasonal opening dates.
  3. Check the entry fee or pass that fits your group.

Your daily plan

Day 1

Reach your park base

Morning
Arrive in Bozeman early. Collect the car, groceries, and drinking water.
Afternoon
Drive via Gardiner and the North Entrance to Canyon Village. Keep the day for travel.
Evening
Check in and eat at Canyon Village. If your flight lands late, stay near Bozeman first.
Day 2

Geysers and Grand Prismatic

Morning
Leave early for Old Faithful via Norris and Madison. Check the next eruption estimate at the visitor center.
Afternoon
Eat at Old Faithful. Stop at Midway Geyser Basin for the Grand Prismatic boardwalk on the return route.
Evening
Return to Canyon Village. This is the longest sightseeing drive; add no evening outing.
Day 3

The canyon, without rushing

Morning
Drive to Artist Point for the canyon view. Choose another open rim viewpoint if you want more.
Afternoon
Lunch at Canyon Village. Rest, then visit the Canyon Visitor Education Center.
Evening
Dinner near your room. Keep the night free.
Day 4

Hayden Valley and the lake

Morning
Drive south through Hayden Valley. Watch from legal pullouts; wildlife is not guaranteed.
Afternoon
Continue to Yellowstone Lake and Fishing Bridge. Eat a picnic in a permitted area, then return north.
Evening
Eat at Canyon Village. Fuel the car and pack.
Day 5

Return to Bozeman

Morning
Check out and drive back via the open North Entrance route.
Afternoon
Return the car. Book a late flight or a final airport-area night to avoid rushing.
Evening
Travel home.

If plans change

Use the visitor centers or rest during storms. If a road closes, ask a ranger for an open route before setting out.

Make it fit your group

Choose short boardwalks and viewpoints that suit the group. Ask the lodge about accessible rooms. Keep children close and stay on thermal boardwalks. Share your route with someone at home; use a hosted outing when you want company.

Set your total budget

Price four lodge nights, flights, car and fuel, park entry, and meals. Add an airport night if flight times need it.

Before you go

Save offline maps and confirmations. Check road alerts. Read park wildlife and food-storage rules; keep food secure and view animals from a safe distance.

Before you pay

Agree on dates, total budget, rooms, and walking needs. Check the key booking first, then reserve travel and lodging with terms you accept.

A week before

Recheck access, weather, and opening hours. Save tickets, maps, and hotel details offline. Confirm meals, transfers, and any child seats.

The day before

Check in for your flight. Pack ID, needed travel documents, medicine, and chargers in your carry-on. Share the plan with your group.
