Where should you stay?
Start with Embarcadero waterfront. An Embarcadero base close to the Ferry Building.
Use BART or a booked airport transfer, then transit and taxis.
What should you book first?
Reserve Alcatraz day-tour tickets for day 2 through the official operator.
Set the full trip budget before you pay. Count lodging, travel, meals, entry fees, and any tours. Check cancellation terms.
Make the plan fit you
Alcatraz has steep grades; check its accessible transport before booking. Families can shorten the bridge walk. Groups should share a ferry departure.
What could change the plan?
Fog may hide the bridge. Swap days 1 and 3 activities where time allows, but keep the timed Alcatraz booking. In rain, use the Ferry Building’s indoor shops.
